Italy's territorial switch

let's consider the previous post "Italy's regional populations" in which we associate to every Italian region the name of a country with the same population.

That's already quite interesting, but what about switching the territories of those countries in order to create a "new Italy" with the same population but... quite deformed in shape?

how big is the surface of the Moon?
well, we could simply say that is 38 million square kilometres (14,6 million square miles).
this is the real area of our satellite, but I think this is not easy surface to imagine.
so I simply found the radium of an imaginary circle of 38 million square kilometres.
the result is easy to find: the radium of this equivalent area of the Moon is exactly 3.480 km
that means that a surface as big as the area of all the spherical ground of our satellite is approximately like this:

this grey area is not equivalent to the visible side of the Moon we are used to.
this grey surface is the equivalent of the entire satellite ground including the visible and the invisible side.

THE EQUIVALENT COUNTRIES

generally the Europeans have very funny ideas about the importance and the dimensions of Europe in comparison with the rest of the World. this is because of a historical and traditional way of considering Europe as the centre of the World and also because of the typical geographic representations of our planet: lot of them have a deformed Europe that makes it appear bigger than what it really is.

I tried to make a fast comparison between the European countries and other countries of the world in terms of Population and Area of their territories.
so let's start with the areas!

in the following map you can see the names of other parts of the world's countries that have the same surfaces of territory of the countries in which they are written upon.

as you can notice it's quite interesting to realize that Germany is as big as the Philippines and Spain is the same as Thailand. Bulgaria's got the same size than Cuba and Uzbekistan is as wide as Sweden.

you can watch the map and look for your own surprising connections, but now, even more interesting than the comparison by area you are gonna see the comparison by population!

same concept: the name upon a country shows the exact correspondence by population  between the two nations. here you have the map.

you can read lot of interesting things: Norway is like Lebanon, all Finland like Singapore (which is just a city!). Russia is like Japan + Burundi and all Argentina could live in the same dwelled houses of Ukraine. All Serbia is like Hong Kong (that is also a single city!) and in Lithuania there's the same population than in Mongolia.

I have to say that the comparison is not always perfect but it's basically correct.
you can check in wikipedia: the differences between the European countries and the countries that are written over them are really small. almost invisible!

tutta l'umanità all'ora di punta

avete presente quando prendete un bus o andate in metropolitana all'ora di punta? tutti ammassati come sardine in piedi a pochi centimetri uno dall'altro? che densità di gente no?
una densità angosciante addirittura a volte, claustrofobica, ma comunque una densità possibile, tecnicamente, no?
cosa accadrebbe dunque se tutta la gente della terra si ammassasse come se stesse in un autobus all'ora di punta? tutti i 7 miliardi di umani stipati uno con l'altro in un angolino del pianeta?

beh, vediamo subito:
diciamo che una media di densità da ora di punta può essere 4 persone per metro quadrato. questo significa che ogni persona mediamente occuperebbe un'area di 50 cm x 50 cm. (c'è anche chi c'ha la pancia grande!).
se dunque consideriamo che ci siano 4 persone per metro quadrato, i nostri bei 7.250.000.000 individui avrebbero bisogno di distribuirsi su 1.812.500.000 metri quadrati (cioè 7.250.000.000 diviso per 4)
questo significa che tutta la popolazione umana si potrebbe concentrare su una superficie di 1812 km quadrati il che equivale approssimativamente alla metà dell'estensione territoriale del Lussemburgo!
non male no?
c'è però un enorme problema: l'incredibile puzza di sudore che ci genererebbe in mezzo alla conglomerazione umana gigante...

ed ecco qui la mappa del mondo con l'estensione del territorio corrispondente a tutta l'umanità all'ora di punta.

beh, forse non è poi così chiara questa mappa! haha
sarà forse il caso di fare un piccolo zoom questo esteso paese chiamato lussemburgo e vedere la superficie occupata da tutta l'umanità in piedi e ordinatamente stipata come in una gigantesca scatola di sardine.
in azzurrino la superficie di tutta l'umanità. l'area colorata in modo più denso è approssimativamente l'area occupata da tutta la popolazione cinese. nell'immagine satellitare potete vedere i paesi, le trade e la pista dell'aeroporto, questo dà un'idea diretta e intuitiva dello spazio necessario a contenere tutta l'umanità.

chissà, forse in occasione di un grande concerto, un giorno....

composição geométrica

gostei dessa simples composição gráfica que fiz hoje, mas vocês sabem o quê? essa imagem tem uma peculiaridade a nível geométrico que pode ser curiosa. alguém achou?
cada um dos quadros de diferente cor é o dobro da superfície do quadro que tem dentro. não pareceria, né?
mas é assim, casa um é o dobro do anterior.

estensione stati per continente

curiosità per fanatici della geografia: qual è l'estensione media degli stati per continente?

i più piccolini, come al solito, gli europei (sarà per questo complesso di inferiorità che siamo andati sempre a colonizzare il resto del pianeta?) ------ 221.000 km2 per stato, mediamente

penultimi nella classifica dei più grandi... gli stati africani, a sorpresa! --------- 562.000 km2 ciascuno!

si classifica subito dopo gli stati dell'oceania! (certo vorrei proprio vedere senza l'australia che farebbero...) ------ 644.000 km2 di media. complimenti! 3 volte uno stato medio europeo.

sale sul podio, al terzo posto, l'asia! i cui stati sono grandi --------- 894.000 km2 ciascuno! non basta avere 3 quarti della russia, la cina e l'india per vincere, cari miei!

al secondo posto! attenzione! gli stati nordamericani! ----------  ben 1.020.000 km2 per stato!  sono stati fregati dalla frammentazione a sud del continente! ce l'avevano quasi fatta a vincere... mi spiace!

e stravince! nella classifica degli stati mediamente più grandi del pianeta terra, il sud america! i cui stati hanno un'estensione media di -------- 1.487.000 km2!!! 7 volte uno stato medio europeo!
